APPLICATION EQUIPMENT ...................................................
The following equipment is always required:Air compressor (electric), minimum 3/4 hp or 3 CFM, or air compressor (gas) minimum 1.5 hp or 3 CFM
Medium nap rollers or conventional airless spray, similar to Graco EM590 with minimum tip size of .017 Sagoia Gun 429N or higher air gun, such as Graco Tax-Spray Ext. with a 4 to 6mm tip for TexTuraSM Finish Coat.
Masking paper and tapes
Paint shields
If you are applying a "lace" texture: then you also need plastic, steel, or PVC trowels; typically 3" to 12" width of blade.
SURFACE PREPARATION .....................................................
All surfaces {substrates) to receive the TexTuraSM System should be prepared as if to receive a typical paint application. All laitance, dust, dirt, nicotine, or other potential bond breakers should be removed prior to application. For renovation projects, the applicator should review wall conditions to ensure that the substrate is properly prepared to receive the TexTuraSM System. On previously painted wall surfaces any loose, flaking, or oxidized paint surface must be thoroughly removed. Where wallcoverings are removed, ensure that any wallpaper adhesive residue is removed prior to application of TexTuraSM System. All gypsum dust should be removed prior to application. Please consult manufacturer or distributor for conditions other than stated.
APPLICATION OF TEXTURASM BASE COAT.......................................
Prior to applying the base coat, ensure that material is thoroughly agitated. In no event should you thin the material. The application of the base coat is by medium nap roller, or commercial grade spray equipment-similar to Graco EM590 or larger with a minimum tip size of 0.017. When rolling the base coat, apply in consistent vertical motion, finishing all strokes at the base of the wall. When spraying, apply the base coat in a continuous horizontal motion with enough overlap to ensure uniform coverage. The material should be applied in a uniform, pinhole-free continuous film with a dry film thickness of 2.7 nil, over the entire surface. Allow base coat to cure a minimum of 4 hours or preferably overnight dependent upon environmental conditions.
APPLICATION OF TEXTURASM FINISH COAT.......................................
Prior to application of the TexTuraSM Finish, the base coat should be fully cured and clean. Ensure that material is agitated thoroughly. Boxing is helpful if needed. In no event should you thin the material. The TexTuraSM Finish Coat is always applied by an atomized spray gun similar to a Goldblatt Hopper Gun, Sagola 429N, or Graco Tex. Spray Ext. Tip sizes will vary from 4ram to 6ram. This equipment creates a "splatter" effect. The coating should be applied evenly with a vertical pass followed by a horizontal pass, or with a constant circular motion, to create a uniform texture.
After opening the pail, stir or agitate the coating. After filling the hopper or pot with material, test the air pressure and spray pattern to ensure correct delivery of material from gun to wall surface. It is recommended that the applicator stand so that the hopper gun is 3 to 4 feet from the surface being sprayed using a Hopper gun, a Sagola gun, or a Tax-Spray Gun. All guns should have a "cheater valve" with a dial gauge to help control air pressures. Ensure that the gun stays at a 90° angle to the surface being sprayed. This ensures consistent splatter size and shape.
For a "lace" texture use a trowel with light pressure to "knock-down" the finish in the direction of the approved mock-up.
REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE ..................................................
Uncured During Application
Scrape off undesirable texture with broad knife. Smooth down as much as possible. Let dry and re-apply base coat to repaired area. Once base coat has dried, re-apply desired texture. After Full Cure
If needed, existing texture may be removed using a latex paint stripper. Mask off surrounding areas to be repaired. Apply stripper and allow to soak for 20 minutes. Use a paint scraper to scrape off stripper and loosened finish. For stubborn areas, use dry #2 coarse steel wool, sand paper, or a wire brush; and scrub loose. Make necessary repairs to substrate with an appropriate patching compound and materials. Ensure that patched areas are finished so that they are flush with surrounding substrate. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let dry. Re-apply TexTuraSM Base Coat to repaired area. Once base has dried, re-apply finish coat in the desired texture.
