3. Product Description

BASIC USE
RAINSTOPPER® Siloxane and Silane Sealers protect and preserve architectural substrates without altering surface texture or appearance. RAINSTOPPER® Siloxane and Silane cause treated substrates to become water repellent while retaining all vapor permeability. Substrates typically treated include: After being chemically treated, these substances become highly resistant to staining, spalling, weathering, efflorescence, water intrusion, salt intrusion, fungi and mildews, deterioration, freeze-thaw scaling and reinforcing steel corrosion.

COMPOSITION & TYPES

RAINSTOPPER® RS1500 and RS600 Siloxane Clear Sealers
The siloxane sealers are 1-component penetrating sealers. These products react chemically with the substrate to form a repellency to salt and water while still allowing the substrate to remain permeable to water vapor. RAINSTOPPER® Siloxane Sealers protect and preserve the substrate without altering the surface texture or appearance.

RAINSTOPPER® siloxane sealers offer the following advantages: RAINSTOPPER® RS140 & RS120 Silane Clear Sealers
Silane is a chemical treatment which causes concrete, masonry, limestone or wood to become repellent to salt and water. It is available in two grades for concrete, masonry and limestone, as well as one grade for wood.

RAINSTOPPER® Silane Sealers have an excellent performance record. Testing indicates that they are superior to oligomeric polysiloxanes, stearates, siliconates, silicates, urethanes, butadienes, chlorinated rubber, epoxies and oils.

RAINSTOPPER® RS140 is a premium grade silane weatherproofing product containing 40% alkyltrialkoxy silane in mineral spirits. It is used to protect and maintain bridges, parking garages, airport pavements, industrial plants, buildings and other concrete and masonry structures in the most severe environments. RAINSTOPPER® 140 penetrates up to 1/2" (13 mm) with each application.

RAINSTOPPER® RS120 is a high grade silane weatherproofing product containing 20% alkyltrialkoxy silane in mineral spirits. It is used to protect and maintain bridges, parking garages, pavements, plants and other brick and concrete structures in severe environments. It penetrates up to 1/4" (6.4 mm) with each application.

RAINSTOPPER® silane sealers offer the following advantages:

RAINSTOPPER® RS1750W is a VOC compliant, micro-emulsifiable concentrate based on silanes and alkoxysilanes. When mixed with water, a microemulsion is produced. This diluted form will impart water repellency to absorbent mineral surfaces. VOC content is less than 400 gm/L per ASTM D5090. RS1750W meets Fed Spec SS-W-110C and NCHRP 244 Series II requirements.

QUANTITY
RAINSTOPPER® Siloxane and Silane Clear Sealers are packaged in 5 gal (19 L) pails and 30 and 55 gal (114 and 208 L) drums.

COVERAGE RATES
Coverage on concrete decks and walls for one coat is 100 - 125 sf (9.3 - 11.6 m2). Complete and full saturation with sealer material is required.

5. Installation

COMPLETION OF RELATED WORK
Concrete must have cured to design strength prior to application of the RAINSTOPPER® Sealers. Roof and parapet top caps must be installed and sealed against water penetration prior to sealer application.

PREPARATORY WORK

Surface Preparation - All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and cured a minimum of 28 days prior to the application of the sealer. Surface contaminants such as dust, dirt, mildew, form oils, curing agents and loose substrate materials should be thoroughly removed.

Absorption Testing - All surfaces must be able to adequately absorb the RAINSTOPPER® Sealers. The sealers can be fully effective only when the solution is able to penetrate into the concrete or masonry pores and capillaries. To determine the surface absorption characteristics, observe the rate at which a small drop of the RAINSTOPPER® Sealer penetrates into the substrate. It will begin to penetrate immediately and be absorbed by the surface within a few seconds if the surface is sufficiently clean to allow penetration. If the surface retains an oil spot appearance, it must be cleaned.

APPLICATION
The RAINSTOPPER® Sealers may be applied by brush, roller or spray. The most effective method is to spray it on the surface using 15 psi (103 kPa) low pressure positive displacement airless spray equipment. All spray equipment should be fitted with fan spray nozzles and then spray adjusted to a Wet Spray condition; mist spraying can allow a substantial portion of the material to be lost to the atmosphere and slow down the rate of application. Deck areas should be sprayed using a spraybar type unit and other areas sprayed with hand spray units.

The spray equipment, tank, hoses, etc, should be thoroughly clean, free of water, foreign matter and oil residue prior to use for spraying the RAINSTOPPER® Sealers. The coverage rate shall be per manufacturer's recommendations. Horizontal surfaces will be completely flooded; vertical surfaces will have spray patterns that will run 6" - 8" (152 - 203 mm) before soaking in when application rates are correct.

If the applicator is unable to complete the entire application at one time, the place where the application was stopped should be clearly marked. Partially used containers should be properly sealed and protected from contamination by water or other foreign substances.

CLEAN UP
Clean up wet overspray on glass, metal, or painted surfaces immediately while still wet using either mineral spirits, xylol, or toluene. Do not delay cleanup; dry RAINSTOPPER® adheres tightly to surfaces.

PRECAUTIONS
Handling Precautions:

Safety Precautions:
·Provide adequate ventilation during and after application, such that RAINSTOPPER® odors are not evident.
·Product is flammable. Use reasonable care and caution. Do not store or use near excessive heat or open flame.
·Sealers contain petroleum distillates, which in liquid form can cause serious illness or death if swallowed or if large quantities are absorbed into the body. Use only in well ventilated areas. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting.
Environmental Precautions:
Do not apply RAINSTOPPER® sealers under the following conditions:
· Rain is imminent
· Surfaces are damp or frozen
·Ambient or surface temperature is below 40°F (4°C) or above 100°F (38 °C)
·Winds are 15 mph (24 kph) or greater, which could interfere with application Sealer must cure minimum of 72 hours before applying any oil base paint.
