REDITEX - DESCRIPTION
A metal surface etching compound that reacts with the surface to insure proper adhesion of the primer.
USES
For the preparation of galvanized, zinc, copper and aluminum surfaces prior to painting, when applied to the metal surface, a dark tint develops. This makes missed areas easily visible. For other metal substrates, contact your local TCA Representative.
SURFACE PREPARATION - ALL METALS
Cleaning: galvanized, ferrous, stainless, aluminum, copper. Remove all dust, dirt, rust, loose mill scale, paint and other foreign matter from surface by either wire brush or light sandblasting.Caution: On galvanized surface, do not remove or chip galvanized coating during cleaning.
Degreasing: galvanized, ferrous, stainless, aluminum, copper.
Surfaces are to be degreased using solvents such as toluene, xylene or 7% TSP (Trisodium Phosphate solution in water).
When solvents are used, rinse surface with clean solvents.
When TSP is used, rinse surface with clean water. All shall be wiped off with a clean cloth.
Caution: If surfaces have been factory primed advise TCA of type used to avoid possible loss of adhesion or incompatibility.
Surface Etching (REDITEX): galvanized, aluminum, copper.
APPLICATION
Following degreasing step, apply TCA's REDITEX which is a surface etching compound that reacts with the surface to give "tooth" to the primer.
Using rubber gloves and rags, apply REDITEX full strength with mop or brush. The surface changes color immediately upon application. Be sure the metal is completely covered with REDITEX.
Under some climactic conditions (Hot or Dry), it is better to use REDITEX diluted with up to three parts water per gallon. Excess solution can be removed with squeegee, rag or sponge, after which a water rinse is recommended. Coverage rate approximately 350 to 400 square feet per gallon.
CONTAINER SIZES
1 gallon and 5 gallon plastic containers.
SHELF LIFE
6 months.
LIMITATIONS
- Refer to metal specifications by TCA prior to product use.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use gloves and goggles during application.
- Surface shall be clean and dry prior to use.
- Do not apply at air temperature below 45¡F.
- Avoid overspray onto metallic surfaces that are not to receive TEXCOTE¨ Textured Coating.
