Installation
Application Equipment:
Series 100, Regular: Airless spray, low pressure (20-25 pounds per square inch) for maximum penetration, or Hudson sprayer. Suitable for application with roller or brush.Series 200, Heavy Duty; Series 400, Semi-transparent; Series 500, Opaque: Commercial grade, airless spray unit. Suitable for application with roller or brush. Avoid excess material application and runs.
Surface Preparation:
All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and cured a minimum of 28 days prior to the application of the sealer or masonry stain.Surface contaminants such as dust, dirt, mildew, form oils, curing agents and loose substrate materials should be thoroughly removed. Painted surface exhibiting loose, flaking, or oxidized paint surfaces must be thoroughly removed by sandblasting, waterblasting, electric sanding, or wire brushing as required by the manufacturer.
Large cracks, holes, or voids must be filled with cement patching compound such as Tax-Bond cement adhesive system. Patching compound finish texture to match existing adjacent finish surfaces. Cracks over one-sixteenth (1/16) of an inch and less than one-eighth (1/8) of an inch should be filled with Flex-Patch patching compound. Interfacing of wail joints should be sealed with a polysulfide type sealant.
Application of Sealer:
Series 100, Regular:
Begin application at top of the surface area requiring sealer and use vertical strokes to break the surface tension and initiate capillary action. Follow immediately with slow horizontal strokes with additional material in order to "flood" the surface. Manufacturer recommends that an eight (8) to twelve (12) inch "rundown" be maintained in order to obtain maximum sealer protection. Substrate porosity of the material may require more than one application in order to satisfy the necessary absorption characteristics of the material surface. Series 200, Heavy Duty: Begin application with a commercial grade airless sprayer, roller or brush. Avoid "rundowns" and sags. Provide a 24-hour cure between coats under ideal weather conditions.Series 400 and 500 (Except Block Substrates):
Stir material well before applying to any substrate. When spraying, apply initial coat of stain as heavy as possible without excess sags or "rundowns." Immediately go back over the surface with the second (fog) coat so that entire surface is uniformly wet, which will minimize lap marks. When spraying large areas, use single direction passes, feathering out to reduce overlap marks. Establish a breakline conforming to the surface design breaks where possible. The first coat should not dry prior to the second coat application when spraying. Roller applied should cure 24 hours between first and second coat application.Series 400 and 500 (Block Substrates Only):
All block surfaces require a first coat of Series 200, Heavy Duty sealer according to the recommended coverage rate requirements. Avoid all sags or "rundowns." Allow 24 hours, minimum, cure time under ideal weather conditions before applying Series 400 and Series 500.Application-Series 140/120 & 1500/600:
RAINSTOPPER¨ Silane & Siloxane Sealer are ready to use and shall be applied as supplied. It cannot be diluted or altered in any way. DO NOT allow any water to get into the solution. Application equipment should contain NO WATER. If the equipment to be used has been cleaned using water, it may still be wet. It should be flushed with a small amount of Anhydrous Alcohol or RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealer prior to beginning the actual application. The RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers may be applied by brush, roller or spray. The most effective method for applying the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers is to spray it on the surface using low pressure (15 p.s.i.) positive displacement airless spray equipment. All spray equipment should be fitted with fan spray nozzles and then spray adjusted to a "Wet Spray" condition. Mist spraying can allow a substantial portion of the material to be lost to the atmosphere and slow down the rate of application. Deck areas should be sprayed using a spray-bar type unit and other areas sprayed with hand spray units. The spray equipment, tank, hoses, etc., should be thoroughly clean, free of water, foreign matter and oil residue prior to use for spraying the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers. The coverage rate shall be as per the NCHRP 244 Test Method or as designated by the governing highway department or engineer of record. Horizontal surfaces will be completely flooded; vertical surfaces will have spray patterns that will run 6 to 8 inches before soaking in when application rates are correct.
If the applicator is unable to complete the entire application at one time, the place where the application was stopped shall be clearly marked. Partially used containers should be properly sealed and protected from contamination by water or other foreign substances.
Provide adequate ventilation during and after application, such that RAINSTOPPER¨ odors are not evident. Product is flammable. Use reasonable care and caution. Do not proceed when excessive winds (fifteen (15) m.p.h, or over) could interfere with application. Concrete shall have cured to design strength prior to application of the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers.
All surfaces must be able to absorb the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers. The Silane can be fully effective only when the solution is able to penetrate into the concrete or masonry pores and capillaries.
To determine the surface absorption characteristics, observe the rate at which a small drop of the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealer penetrates into the substrate. It will begin to penetrate immediately and be absorbed by the surface within a few seconds if the surface is sufficiently clean to allow penetration. If the surface retains an "oil spot" appearance, it must be cleaned.
Surfaces which are not clean (i.e., surfaces where the pores and capillaries may be clogged with oils, dirt, dust, curling compound and/or other coatings, etc.) must be cleaned sufficiently to allow enough pores to be opened so that the RAINSTOPPER¨ Sealers can penetrate as described above. Clean Up
Clean up wet overspray on glass, metal, or painted surfaces immediately while wet, with either mineral spirits, xylol, or toluene. Dry RAINSTOPPER¨ adheres tightly to surfaces.
Key Features, and Advantages
